This causes\u00a0a decline in these ions\u2019 reuptake and a decrease of interstitial hypertonicity, which trigger the diuretic effect.<br \/>\nFurosemide also acts on vascular tone by causing dilation of venous vessels, increasing elasticity and systemic venous capacitance.\u00a0The result is a decrease of central venous blood pressure, pulmonary arterial blood pressure, and a reduction of the afterload on the\u00a0left ventricle, which enhances stroke volume and cardiac output, and leads to secondary decreases in ventricular preload and venous\u00a0pressures.<\/p>\n<p><strong>USAGE<\/strong><br \/>\nTreatment of dilated cardiomyopathy, pulmonary edema, mammary edema, and other conditions Treatment of hypercalciuric<br \/>\nnephrolithiasis, elevated uremia, as adjuvant therapy for hyperkalemia, and occasionally as an antihypertensive agent.<\/p>\n<p><strong>TARGET SPECIES<\/strong><br \/>\nCats and dogs<\/p>\n<p><strong>ADMINISTRATION ROUTE<\/strong><br \/>\nOral.<\/p>\n<p><strong>DOSAGE<\/strong><br \/>\nCats and dogs: 1-4 drops per kilo (equivalent to 1-4 mg\/kg bw). Administer every 8, 12 or 24 h, depending on the severity of the<br \/>\nsymptoms, and according to the directions of the veterinarian.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONTRAINDICATIONS<\/strong><br \/>\nContraindicated in animals with diabetes mellitus, anuria, or severe kidney or liver failure, as the possibility of furosemide causing\u00a0dehydration or electrolyte unbalance could worsen the condition.
